Amurleoparden
Amurleoparden lever i Amurdalen i samma område som amurtigern.
Dessvärre så är situationen för detta vackra kattdjur om möjligt värre än för tigern.
Man räknar med idag att det finns 30-40 individer kvar i det vilda.
Man försöker med alla medel att skydda denna tynande population.
Individantalet är dock så litet och de lever i ett enormt stort område,
detta gör att det blir svårt för dessa solitära individer att finna varandra.
Ett absolut måste är att förbättra den genetiska diversiteten i en sån liten population.
Många forskare är engagerade i frågan och det finns idag planer på att försöka
sätta ut djurparksfödda ungar i de vilda leopardernas lyor i syfte att bredda
det genetiska underlaget. Vi hoppas givetvis att Nordens Arks nya amurleopardpar
i framtiden skall bli en vikig del i detta bevarandeprojekt.

Amurleopard

The amurleopard lives in the valley of Amur in eastern Russia, in the
same area as the Amur tiger. Unfortunately the situation for this
beautiful cat animal is even worse if possible than the it is for the tiger.
Today they calculate that there is only 30-40 animals in the wild.
They try in all different ways to protect this fading population.
The amount of the leopards are so small and they live in such a huge area,
this makes it difficult for these solitaires to find each other.
An absolute must is to improve the genetic diversity in such a small
population. May researchers are engaged in this problem and there
is today plans to try to put young animals from different zoo in to
the wild leopards lairs with purpose to broaden the genetic base of
the animals. We hope of course that the new leopard couple from
Nordens Ark in the future shall be an important part in this
conservation project.
