This picture shows the crater of Mount Haleakala on Maui.

Here you can find these fabuolous plants - Silversword.

There is roughly 30% more UV radiation at the summit of Haleakalā compared to sea level, and the plants have adapted to it.
The silvery hairs of the ʻĀhinahina (Argyroxiphium sandwicense, Haleakalā silversword) help the plant to protect itself by reflecting sunlight--kind of like its own personal sunscreen!
